Roof System: High Performance Heat Welded Roof System

Project Scope of Work:

  • Conduct a thorough roof analysis of the existing roof system with the owner's representative to determine the condition of the existing roof system and an appropriate course of action that meets with the client's needs.
  • Remove existing roof system to the original structural concrete deck and repair any deteriorated surfaces.
  • Install new cover board with cold applied adhesive.
  • Installed two plies of an APP modified base and mineral cap sheet membrane.
  • Installed two plies of mineral surfaced base flashing at all walls and penetrations.
  • Install high performance flood coat and reflective aggregate surfacing.
  • Installed new field formed edge metal termination system.
  • Install new extensive vegetated roof and elevated concrete paving system.

Project Intent:

  • The existing roof system had exceeded its service life and was leaking.
  • To comply with the universities new sustainability initiative the Universities Architectural and Engineering department directed SR Products install a high performance APP modified bitumen roof system.
  • Since this was a highly visible roof area, a landscaped roof garden was designed and roof membrane system was covered with either:
    • High performance cold applied coal tar adhesive and reflective aggregate.
    • Vegetated roof garden with programmable irrigation system.
    • Roof pavers to create an outdoor patio area as an amenity for the building occupants.
  • Due to the success of this project the university is planning similar projects throughout the Campus.
